Dr. Mary Healy, Associate Professor of Sacred Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, began the much-anticipated workshop on “Women and the New Evangelization” at the Athenaeum of Ohio on April 6, 2013, with two talks: “Women of Holiness in Scripture” and “Women of Holiness Today.” Dr. Healy is author of Men and Women Are from Eden: A Study Guide to John Paul II’s Theology of the Body and co-editor of three books on biblical interpretation. She is general editor, with Dr. Peter Williamson, of the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture and is the author of the first volume, The Gospel of Mark.
Dr. Healy was later joined by Monsignor Frank Lane, PhD, spiritual director at the Athenaeum, who presented on “Women and the Crisis of Modern Society.” The two speakers engaged the audience in dialogue after their presentations in the Bartlett Pastoral Center. The lectures formed the fourth such event at the Athenaeum to celebrate the Year of Faith. Archbishop Schnurr of Cincinnati celebrated Mass at the close of the program.
